410's Project Bike
"410's Project Bike" is a comic zine that covers Dana Sikkila's 475-mile bike journey in the summer of 2015. Sikkila is the Executive Director of the 410 Project, an art gallery/experimental space here in Mankato, Minnesota. It's one of the coolest places we've found in our new town. Sikkila took an art bicycle tour throughout southern and central Minnesota, meeting up with different artists along the way. She collected a few pieces of art at each stop (centered around the ideas of transportation, movement, and Minnesota) and later the pieces went on display at the 410 Project. This is the first comic zine I've reviewed and I love the illustrations (by our friend Sean!). It's also just fun to see a slightly different style of layout than I'm used to—with the handwritten text captioning each section.
Sikkila embarked on a similar journey this summer for 410's Project Bike 2016. This time, she took a video crew along to document tales from the trails and and share artist's stories about what it means to be a maker here in Minnesota. The opening reception and film premier are just a few weeks away, on October 8th—I can't wait to check out all of the art she picked up this time around.
