This gorgeous zine collects the original art and writing of 14 different contributors about the strength of tears. The combination of words and images is seamless thanks to the curating skills of Caitlin Metz & Amanda Robinson (who contribute their own work as well). Illustrations, photographs, image macros, collages, sketches, and lists are paired with essays, poems, and ruminations. Many of the pieces are centered around the idea of reclaiming crying—sharing personal experiences about the transformation of tears as feminine/weak to tears as powerful/strong/shameless. The zine is very well-designed—clean and minimal versus looking handmade/DIY. A 4x6 letterpress art print comes along inside, containing an inspiring mantra by co-curator Caitlin Metz (from her Golding Pearl Letterpress). My very favorite piece is a collage on the second to last page by contributor Hailey Lamb, but each and every piece made me reflect on my own thoughts about tears and crying. This zine is powerful, genuine, and addresses a topic that all of us have probably felt shame about at one point or another. And that's why it's so important.
